It was a warm summer evening and everyone was donned in gaudy Christmas attire. A Christmas album was being made and by happenstance I (Julie) had been asked to take some digital photos of the event. It was one of my first shoots and I was so so nervous on top of it being for an artist I thoroughly enjoyed; but I knew that these were good nerves and it would be very worth it. A new friend of mine at the time, Billy had invited me and so I pretty much knew no one. Being fairly new to Seattle I’d grown accustomed to these type of situations and was able to adapt. The evening went on and there was caroling, laughing, foot tapping and a series of future friendships being woven together. It was almost time to go and the last song was being sung when the door opened hastily and in floated the most handsome man in a red onesie. My heart fluttered and as we made eye contact there was immediately a mutual understanding that this encounter would not be the last. He wasn’t talking to me much or making any effort, which in retrospect, was because he thought I was there with another guy and was being respectful. I decided that it was time to take matters into my hands so I intentionally took some extra photos of him, giving me reason to contact him. My photos were a modern day glass slipper opportunity. I asked my friend for his name and found him on a social networking site. We had some flirty e-mail banter for a week when he still hadn’t made his move. I noticed that his birthday was coming up so again I tried to plant an opportunity. After asking him what his plans were, he invited me to his party. After everyone had left his place for the night it was just the two of us and as he drove me to my car we both agreed that we didn’t want this night to be over just yet. He drove us in the quiet dark night to a secluded place on the water of Lake Union. There we laughed, shared stories; he even picked me a bouquet of wild flowers. It continued until the sun came up and we called it a first date. That was the beginning of our story. Here are a few photos from the photo shoot and one from his birthday evening. It’s crazy how much younger we look and I can not wait to be an old lady with him. :)
